Austria3[1] was a conglomerate of three Austrian quite individualist singer-songwriters Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer and Rainhard Fendrich.
The group was initiated by Fendrich in order to give one single charity concert in favour of homeless in 1997 (which collected more than ATS 2 million, almost USD 200,000). Their success as a group was overwhelming, and the three individualists showed up on stage as Austria3 from that day on, until they decided to stop that project, which they announced on 10 June 2006. Their last concert was given at Altusried, Germany, on 26 July 2006.
However, at Georg Danzer's comeback concert in Vienna on 16 April 2007, the three individuals met again [for just three songs] but even 'thought in public' about possibly re-uniting in 2008.[2] and sang a few of their old classics.
Georg Danzer died from lung cancer on 21 June 2007.
'Austria3 is history by now.' (Rainhard Fendrich in front of 200,000 fans, Donauinselfest, on 23 June 2007).

- ^The group's name is an allusion to the cheap cigarette blend 'Austria 3' produced in Austria after World War II and approximately until the end of the 1950s. The blend was infamous for its awful taste, but Austrians in their teens at that time are likely to have had an 'Austria 3' as their first cigarette.

Rainhard Fendrich’s greatest hits are to be transformed into a musical!
I AM FROM AUSTRIA is a big new musical full of wit, charm and romance, surprising twists and moving moments, packed into a story of love, friendship and family. Over 20 of Rainhard-Fendrich’s hits, including “Macho Macho”, “Haben Sie Wien schon bei Nacht geseh'n?”, “Es lebe der Sport”, “Blond”, “Strada del Sole”, “Tango Korrupti”, “Nix is Fix”, “Weus'd a Herz hast wie a Bergwerk” and of course the title song “I Am From Austria” have been spun together by an original plot telling the story of an internationally successful Austrian film star who has made it to Hollywood but now returns to Vienna to attend the famous annual Opera Ball.
The VBW’s latest in-house production, with hit songs by Rainhard Fendrich, a magnificent set, thrilling choreography and sumptuous costumes, gives audiences a glimpse behind the scenes of a Viennese luxury hotel, where the arrival of a celebrity guest from Hollywood leads to all kinds of hijinks. But the story is also touching when it focuses on private moments away from the glare of the cameras. A traditional Viennese hotel, the fictitious Hotel Edler, becomes the temporary pivot of the world of the rich and famous. Chaos, kisses and catastrophes inevitably follow in this sassy, spirited musical full of romance, surprises and hilarious situation comedy.
